Yonoh was inspired in 2004 when Clara del Portillo and Alex Selma met at an exhibition for young designers in Valencia Spain. Since their formal founding in 2006, Yonoh studio has won dozens of prestigious worldwide awards including Interior Design Magazine’s Best of the Year, the Red Dot IF design award, Good Design, and Wallpaper Design Awards. A collision of past, present and future is the essence of Studio Yonoh. The collaborations of Clara and Alex capture the vibrant colors of Valencia; held neatly within white walls and clean lines of their modern glass studio contrasted by the street’s paving stones, cascading window plants of neighboring, brightly colored apartments, and the...wrought iron balconies adorning their alleyway. Scandinavian minimalism is reflected in the studio’s influences with, as Clara puts it, a little “Mediterranean daring” mixed in. Yonoh’s work is characterized by simple, yet functional designs; simplicity, innovation and originality, without extravagance, sum up their design philosophy with each small detail minutely studied for each of their projects. Clara and Alex feel their opposing personalities make up a very interesting creative group with Alex being more of a risk-taking designer and Clara approaching projects from a more technical, meticulous perspective. Admittedly, their styles were not distinct upon meeting and they’ve continued to develop collaboratively through the years.
